Scottish Clearance Pioneers in NS and PEIwith Brian Nash This webinar will explore the migration of Scottish pioneers to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island during the 18th and 19th centuries, many displaced by the Highland Clearances. Genealogist Brian Nash will highlight the historical events shaping their journeys, the communities they will establish, and the cultural and genealogical legacies they will leave. Attendees will learn strategies to trace ancestors using archives such as the Nova Scotia Archives, McCulloch House Museum, and Beaton Institute, including tips for navigating variant surnames and Gaelic records. The session will also show how Scottish traditions and settlement patterns will help link records to specific homelands and bring family history to life.

Brian Nash is a “Celtic Canadian” genealogist and founder of How We Got Here Genealogy, helping individuals uncover and share their family stories. With over 30 years of research experience, he has traced his own family line back to 950 AD. His ancestors migrated from Scotland and Ireland to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the 18th and 19th centuries, often fleeing hardships like the Highland Clearances and the Irish Potato Blight. Based in PEI, Brian is active in local historical organizations and contributes to WikiTree projects. Through his services, he provides research plans, educational resources, and coaching to make family history accessible and engaging. |
