Welcome to the place where you can get started with your genealogy. We start locally and in the more modern Canada and the US. We gladly work together to throw ideas at your brick walls, cheer on your breakthroughs, and look for new places for your family tree to grow and get specific.

This SIG has been meeting on the third Sunday afternoon of March, May, July, September, and November, 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. via Zoom.

We're looking for a new SIG Leader to set up and coordinate meetings of fellow researchers interested in Canada/US SIG research.

Online Databases

  • Alberta Name Index - a simple unified search for Alberta residents named in various sources, including probates, local histories, obituaries, coroner records, land records (not early homesteads), newspapers and more. 

  • Alberta Records Name Index - an AGS genealogical resource containing over a million Alberta records, including cemeteries, local history books, life events and newspaper records. AGS members can log in to view complete index information

  • Homestead Index - an index to search Alberta land patents (1885-1897), and homestead records (1870-1930 and post-1930).
